Blog Post: Due on Wed, April 24

Our final blog assignment for the semester is not a difficult one! The goal is simply to make a brief post giving your research question and the stance you have taken. These can be taken directly from your outline when it's finished, and the purpose is to give your classmates a place to give you feedback on your project.

1. What was your research question?

2. What is your argument/position/thesis? (In other words, how did you answer your research question?)

3. Provide a link to your presentation if possible (and if you so choose; this is not required.)
If you choose to make a Powerpoint, you can upload it to slideshare.net to make it available for others to see.

Blog Homework due 4/11

Please learn about and explore at least two platforms you could use for the final project

Prezi
Weebly
Google Sites (Google Sites overview)
Wix
Or something else

What are the pros and cons of each one? Do you like using it?

Using one of the platforms, create an example project/site with your name and class (My example: "Andrew Walsh's LIBR 1101 Final Project"). Fill the front page with some brief background text about your research topic.

Post a link to this example project in your blog post.

After doing this exercise, what platform (Physical poster, digital presentation, or website) do you think you might choose for your final poster?

Do you have any other ideas of ways to present your research to your classmates in a visually-appealing way?

What are two key sources that will help answer your research question? Your two sources should be of different types (book, newspaper article, journal article, credible website or other).

Please cite these two sources in APA or MLA format.

Also please include your research question above the two sources.

Notes for Annotated Bibliography Assignment

The annotated bibliography is due at the beginning of class on W 4/10.

Example of a Source in MLA with Annotation (You only need to include the research question once in your bibliography)

Research Question: How is social media changing how businesses and customers interact?

Jones, Steve. “Blogging as a Two-Way Communication Medium” Journal of LIBR 1101. 4.1 (2013): 100-152.

This article by Jones, a media and communications professor at the University of LIBR 1101, outlines how blogging is radically different from traditional media such as radio and television due to its two-way nature; that is, it allows people to consume as well as create information in the form of comments and their own blog posts. I will use this resource to demonstrate how blogging, a key type of social media, must be used differently by businesses than their other promotional channels due to this difference. Instead of merely broadcasting information to their customers, they must include those customers in the conversation and allow for them to share their own thoughts and opinions.

Additional tips
For websites, you should demonstrate why the chosen source is credible and trustworthy in your annotation (by briefly mentioning the organization behind the content and/or the identity of the author, for example).
